The EM Forum 2011 held on November 19th at the National Theatre Okinawa with the theme: "The Use of EM from Society to Daily Life".
The venue was packed full with the participation of approximately 650 people including 70 participants from 18 countries.
This time, the forum started with the keynote speaker, Dr. Ichiro Sugimoto lecturing on EM and health, following Ms. Sanae Kousaka who explained how to use EM in household and Mr. Toshimichi Yoshida, who dedicates to teach children in schools to grow vegetables with food waste compost.
Then a panel discussion focused on the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake presented by the panelists Mr. Manichi Sugawara, Executive Director of Iwate Compost Co., Ltd., Mr. Hideki Ashikaga, Representative of Sanriku EM Association and Mr. Katsuhiro Hirano, President of Hirano Ltd.
Mr. Manichi Sugawara talked on how they are composting rotten fish and organic matter resulting after the tsunami into EM compost controlling bad odors.
Mr. Hideki Ashikaga, a victim himself, talked on the launched programs applying EM technology in fish processing factories, schools and any damaged places in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture.
Mr. Katsuhiro Hirano, expressed that he is looking forward to see the results of applying EM so that he continued using EM in every affected site.
The second part of the panel discussion, focalized on radiation countermeasures using EM Technology.
After the Fukushima first nuclear power plant crisis, vast area of land including Kanto and Tohoku regions were contaminated by the massive amounts of radiation leak. Mr. Takehiro Makuta, President of Makuta Amenity Co., Ltd., Ms. Mika Noro, Representative of the NPO "A Bridge to the Chernobyl" and Dr. Aleksander Nikitin, Head of the Laboratory of Radioecology in the Institute of Radiobiology of National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were the relevant panelist for this part of discussion.
The forum ended successfully with the lecture of Prof. Higa who emphasized that EM activities must start to preserve the environment and for the future of grandchildren, but above all, it is fundamental to enjoy yourself that will be the reason to keep activities on going.

After the forum, the reception as usual held at EM Hotel Costa Vista Okinawa with the participation of about 300 people who enjoyed the delicious EM foods.

The next day, on 20th, a tour to the EM Research Organization's farm was scheduled for those participants who booked in previously.
The farm named "Sunshine Farm" was introduced by Prof. Higa and the farm manager Mr. Oshiro.
After the visit, the chefs of Hotel Costa Vista Okinawa served barbecue and a variety of plates offering a happy time to the guests.
