EM™ was started at an experimental stage in 1989 in Myanmar through the Yezin Agricultural University and the results led to the recognition of EM™ by high-ranking government officials. EM manufacturing was initiated in 1993 and although used primarily in agriculture. As of 2008, more than ha of rice paddies use EM™.
EM™ is sprayed at the landfill in Yangon to make compost. Over 2,000 tons per year of high quality compost are produced there.
There are five EM manufacture factories and EM™ is widely used throughout Myanmar. Central Agriculture Research and Training Center (CARTC), which contributes to the establishment of farming technology without chemical fertilizers and agrichemicals, conducts seminars for EM engineers and a variety of tests to examine how to apply EM™ more effectively.
