Colombia

EM Technology™ was first introduced in Colombia in 1997 and promoted under the Catholic organization "Minuto de Dios" and then FUNDASES, a division of "Minuto de Dios", took over the manufacture and promotion of EM™, based in Bogotá, Colombia. EM™ had been promoted mainly through shrimp culture industry; however, nowadays it has been applied to other fields such as flower and ornamental plants, environmental project, and EM ceramics. Colombia is now on information center for EM Technology™ in Latin America.

Garbage Recycle Program

colombia01City of Cajica started a garbage recycle program with EM Technology™ in 2008, which is to collect garbage from all households (11,000 households, 50,000 citizens) and then it is converted into organic fertilizer. Although the program is managed by city health department, the actual instruction is given by local high school students, who learned EM Technology™ at school. As a part of their class credits, Each student visits 5 households to teach how to use EM™ Bokashi to make garbage compost. Today, this project is carried out in other 23 municipalities in Colombia. The program leads to the public awareness of recycling; at the same time it seems that it influences the decrease of illegal dumping.
