AGEARTH Ecuador, associated by the alumni of EARTH University in Costa Rica, has been manufacturing and promoting EM Technology™ since 2000 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It is widely applied to the organic or sustainable banana plantations for producing organic fertilizer. Shrimp cultivation has been accounted for the main part of EM™ application and it still has been increasing. In the meantime EM™ application to the organic farming and cultivation of flowers and ornament plan also has been promoted.
Shrimp cultivation as one of the EM™ applications is very famous in Ecuador. Recently, EM™ application to flower cultivation has been actively promoted in use of the compost treated with EM™.
The problem of flower cultivation is flower residues after harvest. If the flower residues get infected by diseases, it causes pest infestation in organic fertilizer unless soil disinfection has to be done. In Ecuador, farmers use EM™ to avoid this problem because EM™ helps those residues ferment and changes to compost so that organic fertilizer can keep its quality and sustainable use. Thus, it is possible to grow flowers in greenhouses without concerning about pest infestation and soil disinfection.
