EM Bokashi Connects People As a FamilyAichi, Japan
Discovering EM BokashiLocated in Seto City, Aichi prefecture, Mugi no Sato is a welfare center to provide work support for people with severe disabilities. When the staff was looking for works that could be operated by people with disabilities, they found EM Bokashi.
Since then, they have been working on making EM bokashi for over 25 years.
A Place to Exchange and CommunicateAlthough the EM Bokashi making operation is assigned according to the disability grade, EM bokashi making provides a valuable communication and exchange place where workers can be working together as a team.
The Director, Ms. Watanabe, says: "This facility has a special warm atmosphere. We are like a family and this is what differentiates from other facilities".
Their motto is to give priority to provide a "work place" for people with disabilities, so they think that participants work very dedicated because they feel motivated.
Moreover, everyone talks and encourages with each other making EM Bokashi.
The Most Important ThingIn order to create such warm atmosphere, Mr. Kojya, a staff member in charge of making EM Bokashi and counselor, is always trying to speak from the same perspective, rather than teaching them as an instructor. He expresses: "The most important thing I want to do now is 'wait and be patient'. I like to take care of them and wait until my words will be understood by that person. I want to respect the time they need to respond even when I say something like 'let's go'".
At this facility, the staff also consider that growth as a person is also essential, so they encourage participants to integrate into society.
